The application deadline is approaching for funds from the 144-Corridor Housing Initiative to help with the cost of projects that help make the east side of Greene County more attractive. Projects might include extra yard work, adding a wheelchair ramp, or adding a railing or replacing a rotting unsafe railing on the front step.
The 144-Corridor Housing Initiative for people living in the towns on the east side of Greene County may be able to provide up to $1,000 in financial assistance. “Funds must be matched by the homeowner, but if you are doing a fixup, why not apply to 144-CHI for some extra dollars?” a 144-CHI spokesperson said.
The applications are available at the banks and libraries in Rippey, Gand Junction and Paton, and Dana residents received information in their most recent utilities bill. Applications for projects in Dana can be obtained at Peoples Bank in Grand Junction.
The applications are not lengthy, and there is not an income filter, but the resident must live within the city limits. The project must improve the looks of the exterior of the residence. The applications must be completed by April 15, and include a photo. The application asks what needs to be done and a cost estimate. It is strongly suggested materials be purchased locally.
144-CHI board members will review the requests and will let the applicant know by May 1 if their project was selected. The work must be completed on or before Nov. 15, including submission of costs and an after photo. The individual will be reimbursed after that submission.
Funds have been solicited from the city councils of the four communities, Louis Dreyfus funds, Greene County Development Corporation, Peoples Bank of Rippey and Grand Junction, Rolling Hills Bank of Rippey, Home State Bank of Jefferson, and Community State Bank of Paton.
